Findlay, Baugh, Hyatt get half centuries in Jamaica’s practice match

Replying to 153 by Tamar Lambert’s XI, Dave Bernard’s XI — led by half-centuries from Findlay, Carlton Baugh and Danza Hyatt — secured a handsome first innings lead at Chedwin Park when they amassed 317 all out just before the close.

From an overnight 47 for one, Bernard’s side secured a 164-run advantage mainly through Findlay’s stout innings.

The tall left-hander, who has played nine One Day International (ODI) matches and two Twenty20 Internationals for West Indies, fell 22 runs short of a hundred after hitting eight fours and one six.

Fringe West Indies wicket-keeper Baugh struck 54 with three fours and one six and Hyatt posted an even 50 with seven boundaries.

Fast bowler Daren Powell bolstered the innings late with a rapid 44, including one four and four sixes and Nikita Miller (33) also got among the runs.

Leg spinner Odean Brown led the bowling for Lambert’s XI, claiming three for 60 off 24.1 overs, while pacer Andrew Richardson (2-44) and left-arm spinner Andre Dwyer (2-87) shared four wickets.

On Monday’s first day, off-spinner Bevon Brown (5-50) and left-arm spinner Miller (3-25) tormented the batsmen, with only Donovan Pagon (43), Lambert (35) and Brenton Parchment (27) showing any resistance.

The Jamaica squad will be named later this week for their opening game of the WICB Regional 4-Day championship against the Windward Islands from January 8-11.
