The selections have been made and the contestants are going through their paces as they gear for the Miss Jamzone Pageant 2009 scheduled for the Splashmin’s Resort on August 30.
This week The Scene offers a glimpse of the title hopefuls.
Carla Wynter
This 18-year-old who is currently being trained as a pharmacy assistant at the Leonora Cottage Hospital, hails from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo. She likes modelling, reading, conversing with friends and family and exploring natures beauty. She can also be found spending time with youth in her community as a peer educator. Carla won the Miss Vergenoegen Beauty Pageant last year.
Shivonna Corridus
At 19, Shivonna is preparing to enter the Guyana School of Nursing. This Georgetown resident enjoys dancing, browsing the internet, meeting and interacting with people and visiting new places. She also likes helping the elderly.
Keziah Roberts
Another nurse in waiting, Keziah is a 21-year-old Lindener whose hobbies are modeling and meeting and visiting interesting people and places.
Alicia Bess
Alicia is a 19-year-old bank clerk who is also pursuing courses in financial management. A resident of Grove, East Bank Demerara she enjoys dancing, singing, modelling and reading.
Tonaina Samaroo
At 20 years old, Tonaina is a legal clerk who has her heart set on becoming an entertainer. She hails from Industry, East Coast Demerara and enjoys cycling, football, swimming and modelling.
Linda Henry
Linda, who is training to become a cosmetologist, lives in the city and is 20 years old. She enjoys shopping, watching movies, travelling, listening to music and playing board games.
Lashawn De Souza
This 22-year-old supervisor at a shipping company is pursuing a degree in Business Management at the University of Guyana. Lashawn lives at Parfait Harmonie and enjoys reading, learning about computers, dancing , cooking, travelling and modelling. She also has a “soft spot for the underprivileged and needy because I empathize with their struggles as I have also been through my fair share”.
Marsha Chester
Marsha, who hails from Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, works as assistant manager at a boutique. In her spare time she can be found mentoring children at the Mahaica Children’s Home. At 19, she is no stranger to pageants having placed first runner up in the Miss Guyana Talented Teen Pageant.
Tunisha Elexey
Another city resident, Tunisha works as a customer care representative. She is 23 years old and enjoys reading, travelling, modeling and meeting and interacting with interesting persons.
Yonette Wilson
Yonette who hails from North Rupununi in Region Nine is a registered nurse. This 22-year-old who already has the Miss Region Six Pageant title under her belt, likes cooking, travelling and modeling.
Kerry Woolford
A beauty consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics, Kerry is pursuing a degree in Theatre and Electronic Multimedia and Design at City College of New York. This 22-year-old city resident enjoys playing Scrabble, Billiards and dancing.
Charis Joseph
Charis who lives at Noitgedacht in Linden is a teacher. She is 23 years old and likes dancing and reading.
Jamacye Mason
A cosmetologist who hails from Kwakwani, Berbice River, Jamayce enjoys reading, dancing, modelling, travelling to exotic places and meeting people. She is a former Miss Body Fitness and was first runner-up in the Miss Berbice pageant. She was also the British Virgin Islands motor sports calendar model of the year.
Althea Roach
A clerk in the public sector, Althea likes reading, writing, taking long walks and modelling. This 20-year-old Georgetown resident also finds the time to work with the less fortunate.
