Indian film festival continues with Taare Zammen Par, Kanchivaram

Inshan hates school. His teacher and classmates subject him to constant humiliation while his parents despair of trying to get him to excel. They send Ishaan to boarding school where a new teacher (Aamir Khan) identifies that Ishaan has dyslexia and starts to work with him and helps him to achieve in school. The film has been described as “…a film full of substance…”

And on Friday, 13 November, Kanchivaram will be screened. Directed by Priyadarshan, Kanchivaram is set in the the silk weaver’s town of Kanchipuram. It is based on the recollections of an aging man Vengadam who was a silk weaver.

The low wages paid to the weavers prevent the weavers from owning the silk sarees they make. Vengadam becomes involved in the labour struggles of the silk weavers. Vengadam is caught up in the political struggles while he tries to fulfil his promise of marrying his daughter off in a Kanchipuram saree.

All films start at 6 pm and admission is free. The films have English subtitles.
