Mentally ill Guyanese fights deportation from US

A mentally ill man, who has been convicted of several offences and is fighting deportation to Guyana from the US, was recently granted a reprieve by two circuit judges who instructed the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) to review its standard applied to the Convention Against Torture (CAT).

Stabbed Sophia guard died of wounds to lungs -autopsy

Carl Nelson Bollers, the security guard stabbed to death while protecting the Mercy Vocational School and Day Care Centre in Sophia, died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to perforation to the lungs, according to results of a post-mortem examination (PME) performed on his body yesterday.

Dear Editor, The question of extra lessons for secondary school children was recently defended in Parliament by the Minister of Education with the GAP/ROAR member pointing out that if parents have to pay for extra lessons for their children and he, as Minister colludes with such a practice, then the government boasts that primary and secondary education is free is an empty boast since money has to come out of the parents’ pockets anyway.
