BCB and Cellink distributes cricket equipment to clubs

Several clubs in Berbice have benefitted from a donation of a quantity of cricket equipment distributed by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and Cellink recently at the BCB office, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

According to a release from the BCB, the presentation of the equipment of balls and stumps, worth nearly $500,000, was done under the Cellink sponsorship of Berbice Cricket Teams which runs until December 2011.

Chairman of the BCB’s Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, at the presentation ceremony, stated that under Cellink’s $1M sponsorship, a sum of $300,000 was set aside to assist clubs with cricket balls but the BCB decided to invest a further $160,000 to assist some clubs with a set of stumps as well.

Foster declared that cricket in Berbice was at an all time high and said that all effort would be made to maintain the high standard in the future. He praised the management of the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company and Cellink for their support especially Wystan Robertson, Rhonda Johnson and Abena Fung.

Treasurer of the BCB, Anil Beharry, said he was pleased that the board was able to assist the clubs as they are the ones who have to produce cricketers to represent the county. Beharry said the standard of cricket in the Ancient County was achieved due to hard work, visionary leadership and forward planning.

Regional Manager of GT&T in Berbice, James Cummings, handed over the equipment to the clubs. Those clubs receiving cricketing stumps were Blairmont Community Centre Cricket club, West Berbice Cricket Association, Police Sports Club, Young Warriors Cricket Club, Edinburgh Cricket Club, Rose Hall Community Centre Cricket Club, Albion Community Centre Cricket Club, Port Mourant Cricket Club, Bermine Cricket Club, Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and Skeldon Community Centre Cricket club.

Those clubs along with Mount Sinai Cricket Club, Whim National and Kildonan Cricket club received a collection of cricket balls.
