Police offer `unqualified’ apology to Lyndon `Jumbie’ Jones

Police this afternoon made an “unqualified” apology to actor Lyndon `Jumbie’ Jones for detaining him over the Christmas holidays and they admitted that they had held the wrong `Jumbie’ Jones had complained to the media that police invited him down to the police station on Christmas Eve and held him over the Xmas holidays as an alleged suspect in an armed robbery.

Brickdam cop accused of bribery

A police officer accused of bribery was today admitted to bail in the sum of $50,000 when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

City Council underutilized landfill–Lall

When the hazardous state of Le Repentir landfill was raised yesterday in the National Assembly, Local Government Minister Kellawan Lall absolved the government of any blame, saying that it was the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) which had mismanaged the facility.

Executive Director of the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) Edward Shields has told Stabroek Business that the gold mining sector is very likely to better last year’s yield of 301,000 ounces though the industry was likely to end 2010 in a condition of concern and uncertainty.
