Saeed Ali, winner of the junior category of the Topco Juices Mashramani Chess Tournament, plays a game with DDL Brand Executive Alexis Crawford following the presentation of prizes on Sunday evening at the Kei Shar’s Sports Club. Ms Crawford presented the prizes on behalf of her company, DDL, which sponsored the tournament. In addition to the trophy seen in the photo, Saeed received a cash prize and one year’s supply of Topco Juices. Looking on attentively at the game with her trophy is little Vashti Ramnaraine (Mae’s Primary), who played in her first tournament and won the Best Beginner prize. Vashti executed a back rank mate on her elder teenage sister, Miranda, much to her surprise and consternation.
Taffin Khan and Michael Perreira contemplate their choices during their fiery encounter at the Topco Juices Mashramani Chess Tournament which ended last Sunday at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club. Perreira led the Seniors for most of the tournament after he defeated National Champion Wendell Meusa in one of the earlier rounds. Following this loss to Taffin, Perreira faltered in his final round game with Frankie Farley and placed fourth in the tournament. Taffin scored his second victory for the year with this tournament win, having won January’s Trophy Stall Chess Tournament.
