‘I saw a few new construction models which can be applied to the building industry. The expo is very useful since it has a wide range of exhibits one can learn from. The good interaction between the people and exhibitors all helped to enhance knowledge of the products that they had to offer. Generally, it is a good avenue for businesses to showcase what they have to offer. Further, as an architectural student, I am exposed to the materials available and new techniques in the housing sector.’

‘The expo is different and it allows people to know what is available for them to furnish their homes. Since it is the first time, it is refreshing to know that you have somewhere you can come to check out what they have. It’s good since it provides different options for future home owners. I was most impressed by the Buddy’s house- loved the house and the furniture.’

‘I think it is something good and should be continued. I liked the housing development houses which were very good. It allows one to get new ideas when building their houses. Can help you to find places where you can access stuff or make contact to see what linkages can be made.’

‘This expo is a good thing since it helps people who are now trying to build a home to get cheaper supplies. I find it very innovative and there are a lot of offers which people can make use of. I am sorry this was not here when I was building my house so I am just browsing to see what they have here.’
Cecil Franco – building contractor
‘As a contractor I am particularly interested in the new products which are available here. I have visited two hardware exhibits and I like the products which they have on display and their cheap prices. Also, I can gain knowledge which I can use on the job or to advise clients on what products to buy. It is a very good initiative but there needs to be the availability of more advanced stuff like in foreign countries. But, it’s good to see newer equipment and materials here.’

‘The expo is good in Guyana especially for poor people since they would now get the opportunity to purchase a house especially the young people. Being here allows you to get a sense of what you have to get to purchase a house and the requirements of a loan. I was thinking how I can get land but the expo has opened my eyes to what I can have. I did not realise that the housing industry was so modernised, it is a very good thing.’

‘It is a real good thing they do here. I did not know much but this expo has allowed me to experience and learn a lot. I think it should be a yearly feature and this year was a good inauguration. The exposure is good for businesses and the atmosphere was good as well.’

‘This expo has opened my eyes to the types of wood that can be used in the home. I have gained much knowledge about building materials and by being here, now I know which ones will be cost effective in the long run. Alternative building materials can also be identified in the process. It is a good initiative for persons to learn from. I appreciate the houses I have seen and like the designs.

‘It’s good. The exhibitors are very friendly and informative. I have received much information here. This is the place, where persons can get info when they decide to build their homes. I am impressed by the heavy- duty equipment and I love the sitting room of the Buddy’s house. I think it should be continued. This being the first show, I see much progress then, next year can be bigger.’

‘I find the expo very interesting. I am very impressed with the house models available here. The expo provides an opportunity for contractors to learn new things like designs and planning. With the exhibitors bringing in more items, you can now have what you need to build your house and it makes your work easier. I hope that they can have this every year. It is a good initiative by the Ministry of Housing and will help to get the housing industry more developed. Also, it provides opportunities for persons who may not have money to explore the possibilities.’
