Chanderpaul reaches 600-run mark as Lancs win

LIVERPOOL, England, CMC – Veteran West Indies batsman Shiv Chanderpaul stroked yet another half-century to push his runs tally beyond 600 for the season, as Lancashire beat Hampshire by three wickets on the final day of their County Championship match yesterday.

The left-hander, who hit 38 in the first innings as Lancashire replied to Hampshire’s 160 with 398, returned to stroke a top score of 51 as his side successfully chased 168 for victory at Aigburth.

With his latest knock, Chanderpaul moved to 622 runs from just six matches, with two centuries and four half-centuries already under his belt.

Arriving at the crease with Lancashire tottering at 10 for two, Chanderpaul watched his side slip to 44 for four but shared in two crucial partnerships to revive the innings.

He added 40 for the fifth wicket with Gareth Cross (26) and then posted a further 46 for the fifth wicket with Sajid Mahmood (24).

Opener Jimmy Adams had earlier hit a brilliant 194 to fire Hampshire to 405 in their second innings after they trailed by 238 runs on first innings.
