ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The High Performance Centre has been included in next month’s regional limited overs championship in Jamaica, a move the West Indies Cricket Board says is designed to strengthen their youth developmental thrust.
“The inclusion of the Sagicor HPC team is a demonstrable commitment by the WICB to the sustained development of young regional players,” said WICB chief executive Dr. Ernest Hilaire.
“This superb opportunity for the Sagicor HPC team will allow them to compete in a seriously competitive 50-over tournament against tough teams comprising highly experienced international and regional players.
“We are certain that it is going to aid in their continued development following the first semester of three months of intense work at the Sagicor High Performance Centre in Barbados.”
The HPC opened in Barbados in June, and saw the finest young players in the region coming together in a rigorous training programme under head coach Toby Radford.
Following the end of the programme earlier this month, the HPC contested the Cricket Canada Summer Festival in Toronto against hosts Canada and Bermuda and will now turn out in the region’s premier one-day tournament which runs from October 14-24.
They will clash in Group B against Barbados, Guyana and Leeward Islands, and will open their campaign against the Guyanese at Chedwin Park on October 15.
Group A will see Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Windward Islands and Combined Campuses & Colleges doing battle.
The 11-day tournament will be played at three venues Sabina Park, the Trelawny Multi Purpose Stadium and Chedwin Park
