Dates set for final round of Women’s World Cup qualifying

NEW YORK CITY, CMC – Three Caribbean Football Union women’s national teams can now chart their course for a place in the 2011 Women’s World Cup in Germany.

Guyana, Haiti, and Trinidad & Tobago now have their schedule for the final round of CONCACAF qualification to be staged in the Mexican cities of Playa del Carmen and Cancun from October 28 to November 8.

Two teams will qualify directly for next year’s World Cup, and another will advance to a playoff against Europe’s fifth-best for a place.

The eight teams for the final round of CONCACAF qualifiers have been divided into two groups, with Canada, Mexico, T&T, and Guyana forming Group-A, and the United States, Costa Rica, Haiti, and Guatemala comprising Group-B.

The Haitians will feature on the opening day, when they tackle the United States on October 28 in the second match of a double-header.

The following day, Trinidad & Tobago face Canada in the first match of another double-header, and Guyana meet Mexico in the second.

Group matches continue until November 2 before the semi-finals are contested on November 5, and the Finals on November 8.

This will only be the second time the final round of CONCACAF women’s qualifiers has been staged outside of the United States or Canada, and first since the inaugural event in Haiti in 1991.
