UG hosting quality assurance workshop

In a press release UG said the exercise will involve 55 staff members from both UG campuses and will start the university on a pathway of continuous audit of its operations to fulfil students’ expectations and build stakeholder confidence in the service it provides.

From this workshop UG will build its capacity to monitor its performance against established standards, improve its operations and make corrections to its direction in order to boost the quality of its output in both teaching and research.

According to Vice-Chancellor Professor Lawrence Carrington, “The University of Guyana’s ability to fulfil Guyana’s needs hinges on its ability to achieve and maintain excellence in teaching and research.”

The four facilitators for the workshop are drawn from the three University of the West Indies (UWI) campuses. They are Dr Sandra Richards and Jacqueline Moniquette, both senior programme officers in the Quality Assurance Unit of the UWI Cave Hill campus; Dr Anna-May Edwards-Henry, Director, Instructional Development Unit UWI, St Augustine and Dr Anna Perkins, Programme Officer, Quality Assurance Unit, Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies, UWI, Mona. Moniquette conducted the July workshop, the release said.

According to UG, its collaboration with UWI is part of the ongoing relations formalised in December 2008 with the establishment of the UG/UWI Joint Working Group on Collaboration. This initiative has led to several proposals for inter-university cooperation in a number of programmes and joint ventures. The workshop will be held at the Turkeyen Campus.
