Nurses association recognises 25 graduates

A batch of 28 nurses undertook the two-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing programme from which 25 graduated, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.

In her address, Coordinator of the programme Lois Stephanas told the graduates that the event marked a significant milestone in their professional tenure as important members of the health care system.

Dean of the Health Sciences Faculty at UG, Dr Emanuel Cummings in a congratulatory message on the university’s behalf, urged the graduates to take up the challenge to assist in the tutoring of the programme. He said nurses are a major component of any health care system and the shortage of qualified nursing tutors is one of the main hindrances in the profession.

According to GINA, the Gail Teixeira award for the most outstanding midwife and the Gloria Noel award for the most outstanding nurse were presented.

The awards ceremony started in the 1980s to recognise the outstanding contributions of nurses and their commitment to the Guyana Nurses Association. It is now held annually.
