Building contractor denies converting relative’s $300,000 to his own use

Rawle Chesney of 1038 Cummings Park, Sophia on January 30, 2008 at Georgetown, while allegedly being solely entrusted by Winston Chesney with $300,000 for the purchase of windows converted the money to his own use and benefit.

Representing Rawle Chesney, Rexford Jackson made submissions for reasonable bail telling the court that his client was married with five children, had no previous convictions and had never been charged before.

Jackson further said that his client was very eager to defend the proceedings and will be present in court on the dates given.

And according to Winston Chesney, Rawle Chesney who is a distant relative was building his house and only the windows were needed. He had given him the money for the windows which cost $290,000 and the change was to be used for transportation. “Onto this day Rawle never bring a piece of glass,” Winston Chesney told the magistrate.

However, Rawle told the magistrate that the money was not given to him to purchase windows but rather to extend the back and front of the house. He said too that it was $270,000 which was given to him.

Rawle Chesney is to make his next court appearance in Court 10 on March 4.
