Carpenter remanded on rape, larceny charges

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a carpenter of Huston Housing Scheme be remanded to prison for allegedly robbing a woman of a gold ring and a quantity of cash and afterwards raping her.

Quacy Barnwell, 36, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charges of canal knowledge and robbery with violence. The allegation is that on February 11 he used personal violence to rob a female security guard of a gold ring valued over $7,000 and $40 cash and that he had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

Standing in the dock of the court Barnwell stated that “I dunno wah they talking about cause is nah me that do doh.”

He said that he was wrongfully accused by the Virtual Complainant (VC). However, the VC who was also present in court stated that Barnwell was lying and that he did rob and rape her.

The unrepresented Barnwell was later escorted out of the court by a policeman.

He is scheduled to make another court appearance on March 26.
