Korner Kick owner on noise nuisance charge

Gittens, 34, of 236 Albert Street, Alberttown, pleaded not guilty and acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson granted him $10,000 bail.

It is alleged that on February 26, at his Lime and Bent streets bar, he operated a music set that made loud and continuous noise to the annoyance of persons in the community.

Gittens’ lawyer stated that although her client has a licence to play music at his bar until 2am, police went to the bar and instructed him to turn off the music by 11. He complied but was still arrested.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford made no objections to the bail application but stated that while Gittens may have a music licence that did not mean that he could play his music so loudly that it would be an annoyance to the community. The case was transferred to Court Ten for April 19.
