Miner stabbed five times

A 22-year old miner of Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being stabbed five times during a fight.

Ravin Latchman was attacked by another man while consuming alcohol with several friends at a mining camp at Aranka Landing in the Mazaruni area around 2am yesterday, his sister, Savitri Giles said.

She said her brother, who has been a miner for five years now, was chatting with a woman when the two were interrupted by the assailant. Following an argument, the assailant pulled out a knife and attacked Latchman .Giles said her brother ran to seek assistance from another sister who resided a short distance away.

He was subsequently brought to the city by truck. Latchman sustained three stab wounds to the left side chest, another close to his heart and one to the right side of his abdomen.

Up to press time, he was being treated by doctors at the Accident and Emergency unit of the hospital. Giles said her brother was experiencing internal bleeding. She said the doctors declared her brother’s injuries severe.

The matter was reported to the police and the suspect remained at large last evening.
