Passport forgery accused granted bail

The carpenter entered a not guilty plea to the charges of uttering a forged document and conspiracy to commit a felony.

He denied that between February 25 and March 3, he conspired with others to forge a Republic if Guyana passport in favour of Oudram Tomby by inserting his photograph in it in order that it may be used as genuine.

He also denied that on March 22, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport he uttered the forged passport to a female police constable, knowing same to be false.

His lawyer Vic Puran applied for reasonable bail for him on the grounds that he is the sole breadwinner of his family and that this was his client’s first brush with the law.

The prosecutor made no objections to the bail application.

The matters were later transferred to Court Two for April 30.
