Minor, banker among four charged over cocaine in Bartica

Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday placed four persons on bail in the sum of $15,000 each when they appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for allegedly being found in a house with a quantity of cocaine.

Leon Narine, 37, and Leon Canterbury, 25, both of Lot 41 Fourth Avenue, Bartica, Blossom Holder, 28, of Potaro Road, Bartica, and a 15-year-old boy all pleaded not guilty to the joint charge of possession of narcotics.

The quartet denied that on March 26 at Lot 47 Second Avenue, Bartica, they had half a gramme of cocaine in their possession.

Narine, Canterbury and the teenager’s lawyer, Peter Hugh,  applied for reasonable bail for them, stating that they posed no risk of flight.

Meanwhile Holder’s lawyer, Roger Yearwood,  also applied for bail for her, stating that as a result of this incident his client had lost her job as a banker.

He stated that according to information gathered, his client had only visited her boyfriend who resided in the house in which the cocaine was found.

The prosecution made no objections to the bail application.

The quartet is expected to make another court appearance on April 13 at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
