Cop to be charged for driving under the influence

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) will appear before the court shortly charged with drinking while under the influence of alcohol.

The police officer was involved in a three-vehicle accident at Thomas Road, Thomas Lands at around 1 pm on Saturday. Police in a press statement yesterday said investigations revealed that the ASP “was proceeding on the northern side of the road and strayed over into the path of two oncoming vehicles”.

One of the motorists swerved to avoid the collision and slammed into a lamp post, the release explained, while the second collided with the ASP’s vehicle. The motorists, according to police, sustained minor injuries, were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, treated and released.

After the accident a breathalyzer test was conducted on the ASP. It revealed that he was “above the prescribed limit in relation to alcohol consumption”. He is expected to be charged “accordingly”, the police release said.
