Woman stabbed, robbed at seawall

A 29-year old mother of three was last evening robbed and stabbed several times about her right leg while partying at the Georgetown seawall.

Injured is Tamika Hescott of Lot 155 Middle Road, La Penitence. According to reports, Hescott was partying with other relatives at the Sheriff Street junction of the seawall around 8 pm, when she was attacked by a man armed with a broken bottle.

The woman’s aunt told Stabroek News at the Georgetown Public Hospital that while the group of relatives was partying, a man “burst into the crowd” and began to rob her niece. She said she saw the man push Hescott to the ground and start to strip her of her valuables. According to the woman, her niece “put up a fight” with the man and he proceeded to stab her in her right leg with the broken bottle. The man took away a gold chain, a pair of gold earrings and a mobile phone from Hescott.

Following the robbery, she was rushed to the public hospital in a taxi as relatives pursued the bandit, who according to reports had two accomplices during the robbery. The injured woman also sustained stab wounds to the instep, shin and the knee of her right foot and was crying out in pain at the medical institution last evening.

According to Hescott’s aunt, she held on to the bandit’s clothing during the ordeal and succeeded in ripping his shirt off of his body. She said she stopped a nearby police patrol and the officers went in search of the bandit. The agitated woman held pieces of a jersey as she spoke to Stabroek News last evening as several friends and relatives of Hescott rushed to the hospital to check on the injured woman.
