NY court finds Guyanese woman guilty of drug trafficking

According to documents seen by this newspaper Shundell Ricketts went to trial before Judge Eric N. Vitaliano and was later found guilty.

The woman, who had been on bail prior to her short trial, was then remanded to prison by the judge pending sentencing.

According to an affidavit by an ICE agent, Ricketts arrived in the country on September 8, 2009, at JFK on Delta Airlines Flight 384 from Guyana.

She claimed two soft-sided roller Gotcha suitcases that were plastic wrapped.

When officers at the airport checked her luggage it was found that the smaller suitcase had a false bottom that contained five kilogrammes of cocaine.

She was taken into custody but was later granted bail after she pleaded not guilty.
