Employees were given an opportunity to check their blood pressure, glucose level while HIV tests were conducted, among other activities at the fair, held at its Kingston offices. Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the company, Aeshwar Deonarine, who took the first opportunity to undergo all tests at the fair, was quoted by the Government Information Agency (GINA) as saying that health is man’s greatest wealth and that good health facilitates a productive workforce.

He also said that employees should take the knowledge they have about good health into their homes and communities.

Human Resource Manager of GPL Ronald Herbert stated that the human resource is the most important resource to any company and must be in good health in order to operate fully.

World Occupational and Safety and Health Day promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally, in keeping with the International Labour Organisations’s guidelines. It has been observed annually since 2003.

GINA stated that the programme was an awareness-raising effort intended to focus international attention on the magnitude of the issue as well as creating a safety and health culture aimed at reducing the incidence of work-related deaths and injury.
