Bandits tie up watchman grab items worth $6.5M

Armed bandits tied up and later locked a watchman in a toilet at Edinburgh, West Coast Demerara early yesterday morning before escaping with millions of dollars worth of items from an excavator.

Police said in a press release yesterday that around 01:30 hrs, the watchman, Naresh Mahadeo, who was working at the residence of contractor, Suresh Jagmohan was held up be five men, two of whom were armed with a handgun and a knife.

He was tied up and then locked in a toilet.

According to the release, the perpetrators then took away two batteries, a hydraulic pump, a starter and a computer box valued $6.5 million from an excavator that was parked on the premises and escaped.

Investigations are in progress.
