Metering project in Goed Fortuin has boosted water pressure – GWI

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) said the installation of meters has resulted in significantly improved service as it has made customers more aware of wastage.

The company is currently installing meters in Goed Fortuin and it noted that it has already yielded tremendous success. According to GWI Director of Capital Investment and Planning Altaf Gafoor, “the meter serves as a constant reminder that the customer is paying for actual consumption.”

In a press release, Gafoor said since customers are now more conscious of wastage they are now only using what is needed which has resulted in higher water pressure even during peak hours. GWI said to date 436 meters have been installed in Goed Fortuin, 44 shy of its goal.

Meanwhile, CEO Yuri Chandisingh said meters are an integral tool to improving service and he lauded the customers’ response in Goed Fortuin.

He said too the company has a number of metering projects ongoing countrywide and its medium-term target is 50%.

“As customers are metered, we can expect massive improvements in service levels,” he said. Metered customers pay for actual consumption rather than a fixed charge. Customers with queries are encouraged to call GWI’s Customer Service Call Centre on telephone number 227-8701.
