Hospital guards for court after fight over TV set

Two security guards, one of whom is the acting supervisor, attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) are expected to appear in court today charged with assaulting each other following a fight over a television set at the hospital’s East Street compound.

Stabroek News understands that the incident occurred on Monday when the two, who are paid to protect the property of the hospital, got into a ding dong battle involving their fists which resulted in both suffering minor injuries.

According to reports, a television set was placed at the doctor’s quarters in the hospital compound and was viewed by the security guard on duty among others. On the same night, the acting supervisor removed the TV set but the irate guard later took it back to the location.

The determined acting supervisor returned to the location in the company of another guard and an argument erupted. It is not clear who threw the first punch but very shortly after the two were locked down pugilists’ style.

They were parted and the acting supervisor called the police. After investigations, Stabroek News understands, charges were slapped against both of them.

This is not the first such incident at the hospital. This newspaper was told that in January last two female guards were involved in an incident which saw one of them taking off her shoe and beating the other with it. While the police were not called in, both of them were dismissed.
