A man who allegedly forged a Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) preliminary result slip in order to gain employment was granted $100,000 bail by Acting Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he appeared before her yesterday.
Richard Amurilla allegedly on January 25 with intent to defraud, forged a CSEC result slip purporting to show it was issued by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), knowing same to be forged. It is also alleged that on the same day he uttered to Tajnauth Jagunauth of Metro a false CSEC slip in favour of himself, knowing same to be false.
Attorney Mohammed Zafar appeared on behalf of Amurilla. He told the court that his client is a bartender and resides at 6 Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara. The lawyer added that Amurilla has no antecedent and is not a flight risk. He asked for reasonable bail to be granted.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that Amurilla wrote an application to Metro and submitted the result slip to show that he had obtained grades 3 in English and Accounts. Upon investigation of the application it was found that he had gained grade 5 in English and grade 4 in Accounts and therefore the matter was reported and he was charged with the offence.
The prosecutor said that he had no objection to bail but asked as a condition that Amurilla should report to CID everyday.
He was then granted bail and the matter put down for June 24 in Court Two for statements. As a condition of his bail, Amurilla is to report to CID on Mondays.
