Bus conductor remanded on two charges of carnal knowledge

Twenty-year-old Devon Alexander of North Sophia was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court accused of having carnal knowledge twice of a girl under the age of 15 years.

The bus conductor was not required to plead to two indictable charges of carnal knowledge when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read them to him.

It is alleged that on April 13, at Agricola, East Bank Demerara, and again on April 16, at Georgetown, he allegedly had carnal knowledge of the schoolgirl.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford requested that the unrepresented Alexander be remanded to prison, stating that he currently has another carnal knowledge case against him in another court involving another girl.

The magistrate refused bail for Alexander and ordered that he return to court on May 28.
