Labourer stabbed to death after leaving wedding

Sometime after a man left a Crabwood Creek “wedding house” on Saturday night he was found dead on a dam with stab wounds about the body.

Wilfred McAllister, called Ernest, was discovered at about 9 that night with “suspected stab wounds”, police said in a press release yesterday afternoon. The 37-year-old labourer of Number 79 Village, Corriverton, Berbice was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body, which was found at Old Dam, Crabwood Creek, is at the hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

McAllister’s cousin, who identified herself as Jennifer, told Stabroek News via telephone last evening that she’d last seen the man on Friday. As far as she was aware, Jennifer said, McAllister had been staying in Crabwood Creek for a while.

“I learnt of his death from the police 3 am this morning [yesterday] when the police come by to tell us what happened,” Jennifer told Stabroek News. “I really don’t know anything other than what they [police] told us and they just said that they got a call that he was found with what look like stab wounds.”

This newspaper has since learnt that McAllister was involved in an argument at the wedding before he stormed out. Sometime later he was discovered on the dam and the neighbourhood police were informed.

Meanwhile, Stabroek News learnt from the dead man’s cousin that he’d been charged in connection with the Crabwood Creek septic tank murder of Ram Kanniah. On the morning of November 15, 2009, Kanniah, 42, of Number 78 Village, Corriverton,  Berbice was found dead in the septic tank at Grant 1806 Crabwood Creek. A post-mortem examination revealed that Kanniah died as a result of “stab wounds to the chest with protrusion of the lungs”.

Following investigations police then issued a wanted bulletin for Particksha Shaw, whose last known address was Grant 1806, Crabwood Creek, Corentyne.  The woman had shared a relationship with Kanniah and is yet to be arrested.

“My cousin went to court charged in relation to the man’s murder,” Jennifer recalled, “but I can’t tell you exactly what the charge is.”

McAllister had appeared before the Springlands Magistrate’s Court and was later released on $100,000 bail. Jennifer could not say whether her cousin had been in contact with the woman.

“As far as I know my cousin didn’t have a problem with nobody and I still ain’t know is exactly what go on Saturday night,” Jennifer said.

McAllister’s mother, who resides in Suriname, has since been informed of his death. She is expected in the country today.
