Trio remanded over break-in at Vic Puran’s home

An attorney appeared in court yesterday as a complainant in a matter where three men are accused of breaking into his home. When the trio appeared before Acting Chief Magis-trate Melissa Robertson to answer the charges, they were remanded to prison.

Basheer Khan

It is alleged that David Glasgow, Linden George and Basheer Khan, between May 2-8, stole from the dwelling of Vic Puran a quantity of clothing, household articles and glasses valued at $500,000. A plea of not guilty was entered on their behalf.

Glasgow, 34, of 34 First Street, Alberttown told the court that he usually sleeps in an abandoned lot in Kitty and he found a bag with clothing there. He said when he was leaving he was stopped by a neighbour who allegedly told him the items belonged to Vic Puran. He added that he picked up the items to make “bedding” and had no idea where they had come from.

All George, who has no fixed place of abode, could say was “I don’t know anything about it.”
Khan of Maria’s Lodge, Essequibo, said he was working on the day in question and was given some clothes by a woman.
He accused the attorney of pulling a gun on him in order to get an answer from him.

In response, Puran said that from the bag of clothing that Khan had, he found a pair of his trousers. He added that the lady from whom Khan claimed to have gotten the clothes was able to identify them, except a pair of trousers which he claimed was his.

The attorney added that George had a blue suitcase, one of the articles missing from his home, in his possession, while Glasgow was found with a picture frame with two doves, one of the missing articles, on his person.

Puran added that articles belonging to him were found on the person of the three accused. He added that investigations revealed that the men sold the articles to a stall holder at the Kitty Market.

Bail was then refused and the matter put down for June 4 for statements.
When the decision was given, Glasgow pleaded with the magistrate to finish the matter now. With tears in his eyes he said, “I is a poor man, I ain’t got no one to visit me in jail.” He added that the attorney took advantage of the situation. He accused him of tramping on his food, tennis roll and plantain chips, in order to force a confession out of him.
