Ex-girlfriend assaulted after tiff over phone call

-court hears
A man was placed on $30,000 bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Monday charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend, causing her actual bodily harm.

Lancedale Brown of 57 Robb Street, Bourda pleaded not guilty to the charge that on May 16, he assaulted Carelisa Matthews to cause her actual bodily harm.

Brown told the court that he and Matthews had a misunderstanding over a phone call she received.  He said that she tried to grab his injured hand and in retaliation he slapped her.
However Matthews said that Brown threw her phone on the ground and when she bent to pick it up, he started to hit her.  The prosecutor did not oppose bail but said as a condition, Brown should stay away from Matthews.

Brown was then placed on bail and the matter set down for June 23 in Court 10.
