‘Red Eye’ wanted over Wellington Park murder

Police have issued a wanted bulletin for Compton Greene called ‘Red Eye’, who is wanted by the police in connection with the murder of security guard Arjune Gobin as well as a series of armed robberies committed on the Corentyne.

Greene, 35, and whose last address was provided as Lot 84, Alness Village Corentyne, Berbice, is of medium build and is 5’8” in height. Anyone with information which may lead to his arrest is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2227, 226-2917, 333-2151, 333-2191, 911 or the nearest police station. All information will be treated in strict confidence, the police noted.

Gobin, 47, of Bloomfield, Corentyne, was being taken to the scene of a robbery at a house at Wellington Park in a Pajero vehicle around 1:40 am last Tuesday when bandits opened fire, hitting him in his head. He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Rajendra Persaud, 46, Chief Executive Officer of Nand Persaud & Co. Ltd., the first to be shot at by the bandits, was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to a city hospital to seek further treatment. The bandits carried high powered rifles during the attack and used sledgehammers in their efforts to gain entry into the home belonging to Persaud’s sister.
