Man remanded over threatening and assaulting the mother of his child

A man was remanded to prison yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he appeared before her charged with using threatening language to the mother of his child and assaulting her.

Wazim Ali, 35, of Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust pleaded not guilty to using threatening language on June 4 to Angela Ramjohn. It is also alleged that on the same day, he unlawfully assaulted her.

“I didn’t assault her, we just had a lil talking,” Ali said when asked by the magistrate about the assault allegations. He also told Magistrate Robertson that he did not use threatening language to Ramjohn.

However Ramjohn said, “He’s lying”. She said that on the day in question, Ali went to her home to collect food for their daughter. She told him that she had not yet finished, she said, and he pushed her. She pushed him back because she did not want to get burnt as she was in the kitchen.

She said Ali then started kicking her and two of her neighbours had to intervene to stop him. He allegedly told her, “I gun wipe off yuh neck.”

Ali was then refused bail and the matter put down for June 18.
