Police are investigating the shooting and robbery of a Brazilian miner which occurred on Friday at Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River.
According to a police release, around 09:00 hrs Obedio Guillermo Pires was shot and injured and robbed of a quantity of gold. Investigations so far revealed that Pires was returning to his camp with a quantity of gold in his batel when he was shot to his right shoulder.
He managed to run into his camp after dropping the batel with the gold which was not found during a later search, the release said. Pires is receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
