Caricom wants regional crime plan speeded up

Crime and security remains a priority area in the Caricom region and leaders are calling for movement on the development of a Regional Crime and Security Resource Mobilisation Plan.

Heads of Government who met in Jamaica recently agreed that the issue is one of the main regional priorities and they have also called for the completion of implementation of the CARICOM Travel Card (CARIPASS).

Caricom leaders have also agreed that the implementation of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) with the USA should receive focused attention with the establishment of the Technical Working Groups to advance the Action Plan agreed by both sides, according to the communiqué which was issued after the regional meeting.

It said too that the leaders further agreed on sustained efforts with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to advance cooperation on joint prevention and crime reduction initiatives.
