Tragedy-hit Soesdyke family robbed by bandits

Still grieving over the loss of their son in a horrific smash-up at Craig last month the parents of Anthony Beepat were terrorised by bandits at their Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara home early yesterday morning.

Three gunmen invaded their home during the wee hours of the morning, battered Beepat and his wife Patsy Beepat with the butts of their guns and made off with $500,000 cash and about $200,000 worth in jewellery.
Investigations, a senior police source has since told this newspaper, have revealed that at about 2.30 am Beepat and his wife heard strange noises.

Beepat, the source said, went to investigate and was confronted by three armed, masked men.

The perpetrators then proceeded to assault the man and his wife while demanding valuables from them. After spending several minutes in the Soesdyke home the gunmen escaped with more than half a million dollars in valuables and cash.

The couple was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for medical attention. They were treated and then released.

Patsy operates a popular business on the Soesdyke Public Road a short distance from the highway junction.
