Former clerk released on $50,000 after denying larceny charge

Twenty-eight-year-old Sherman Oxford of Grove, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday granted bail at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged with stealing a quantity of money from Laparkan Airways.

Oxford pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny  when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it him.

He denied that on March 26, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, he stole $45,550 from Laparkan Airways, where he had been employed for several months as a clerk. Oxford had applied for reasonable bail, stating that he had fully cooperated with the police during their investigations.

The prosecution made no objections to the bail application and the magistrate subsequently granted it in the sum of $50,000 and ordered that he return to court on September 6.
