Teens charged with snatching cell phone

Prince Pickering and Travis Lewis, both 17, were yesterday placed on $30,000 bail, after being charged with allegedly snatching a man’s cell phone.

Both teens pleaded not guilty to the joint charge of larceny from the person when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to them at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on July 22, at Stone Avenue, Campbellville, they stole a cell phone valued $30,000 from Reaz Andrew. Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that Pickering told Lewis to snatch the phone from Andrew and that he did. He noted that Lewis and Pickering then ran into a bus but several public spirited citizens apprehended them after Andrew had raised an alarm. He further noted that Lewis was caught with the phone in his hand.

The magistrate afterward granted bail and ordered that both boys return to court on September 15.
