Two found with stolen gun arrested

Police arrested two people, including a foreign national, after they were found in possession of a stolen gun at a Bel Air, East Coast Demerara house Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, the police force said that during diligent investigations into an armed robbery, ranks conducted a search on the house and recovered a browning pistol with 39 matching rounds. As a result, a man who is a foreign national and a Guyanese woman were taken into custody to assist police with investigations.

Police said the firearm was stolen from a businessman during a robbery at his home in Republic Park, East Bank Demerara on July 16.

Stabroek News was told yesterday that the man and woman were still in custody as investigators were working to determine whether they were part of the robbery.
