Brazilian miner chopped to death at Aranka

A Brazilian miner was chopped to death during a heated argument with his drinking partner at Aranka Backdam, Cuyuni River on Saturday. The suspect has since been handed over to police.

Dead is Jose Rodriguez De Oliveira. Police said in a press release yesterday that they are investigating the murder which occurred around 0600 hours.

Investigations have reveal-ed that De Oliveira and the suspect were imbibing in their mining camp during which there was a confrontation between the two men. “it is alleged that De Oliveira assaulted the suspect with a cutlass and the suspect then stabbed him to the chest with a knife and also chopped him with the cutlass”, the release said.

Residents of the community, the statement added arrested the suspect and subsequently handed him over to the police who took him into custody.

Ten miners have been killed at interior locations for the year so far. De Oliveira is the fourth Brazilian.
