Six regions get equipment to boost capacity

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Kellawan Lall handed over a quantity of (ATVs), motorcycles and other equipment to six regions to boost their capacity.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release two Lifan motorcycles were presented to Region One to be used in Port Kaituma and Mabaruma respectively. An All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) was also handed over for use at Moruka and its environs. Additionally, the two islands of Region Three: Wakenaam and Leguan were presented with one motorcycle each while an ATV was given to Region Seven to boost access mountainous terrain in the region.

The Bartica Health Centre in Region Seven was presented with one solar panel, a television set, a refrigerator and a DVD player. An ATV was presented to Kato, Region Eight while the Maurawa Primary School in the same region was given a solar panel, television set, refrigerator and a DVD player. An outboard engine was also presented to the region to assist in transporting students from the Kaiarupai area.

An ATV was presented to Region Nine to serve Aishalton and Annai respectively. A health post at Awarawanu received a solar panel, television set, refrigerator and DVD player. In addition to a motorcycle, following a request from the region Ten Regional Chairman a solar panel, television set, refrigerator and DVD player was handed over to furnish the annex to the Great Falls Primary School.

Dean of Regional Executive Officers Peter Ramotar gave assurances that the donated items will be used for the purposes intended. According to GINA the equipment is expected to boost surveillance and security across the regions, particularly when contracts are being executed. Lall said the ministry will continue to increase the capacity of regional democratic councils and to boost their transportation and equipment base.
