Sophia woman remanded on wounding charge

Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton remanded to prison a 25-year-old woman accused of wounding another, when she appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard that on August 2nd at Georgetown, Sherry-Ann Williams of 860 Ninth Street, Sophia unlawfully and maliciously wounded Marva Daniels with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm to her. The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge of felonious wounding.

Williams’s attorney, Mortimer Codette, told the court that his client was making her way home at about 3am on the said day when the virtual complainant attacked her. Codette said Williams was simply defending herself during the attack and he was shocked that she had been charged and put before the courts.

He then asked the court to grant Williams reasonable bail on the grounds that she poses no flight risk and has no previous antecedents. He also said she has been cooperating with police.

However, the prosecutor objected to bail; submitting that the virtual complainant is hospitalised and is in serious condition.

Williams was ordered to return to court September 1.
