Mc Kinnon wins small bore shooting title

Ryan Mckinnon emerged the champion shooter at the Guyana NRA monthly two-day small bore shooting championship held recently.

He was in top form on both days and recorded a convincing 220 points on the second day beating into second place Dale Hing on 176 followed by David Dharry third on 174.

In the first day of competition at TSU ranges at Eve Leary, McKinnon scored 162 points with 2 V-bulls points in the .22mm Precision shoot firing 20 rounds at 15 and 20 metres in 20 seconds.

Ian Rogers was pipped into second position with a similar 162 points with 1 v-bull while Dharry ended third on 145 points.

Trevor Gomes was first among the juniors with 177 points and six v-bulls followed by Romeo Yong with 153 points and four v-bulls and Suraj Ramjit third with 132 points. The junior shot 10 rounds from five yards in one minute.

The competition moved the Timehri rifle and pistol ranges the following day. The course of fire consisted of two practical pistol stages with both challenging shooters to garner the best combination of accuracy and speed.

The first stage saw Ryan McKinnon once again proved that his first day performance was no fluke when he took the lead with 115 points followed by Dale Hing (95 points) and David Dharry (94 points). The second stage offered an additional challenge as mother nature decided to make her presence felt and the shooters were forced compete in varying degrees of sunshine and rainfall. Nonetheless the show went on, and yet again McKinnon managed to shake off the competition to win the stage with 105 points. He was again followed by Hing (81 points) and Dharry (80 points). At the end of the event the top three shooters were McKinnon, Hing and Dharry.
