Accused in knife-point robbery on remand

A man accused of a knife-point robbery in Linden was on Friday remanded to prison.

Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton denied bail to Deon Joseph when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with robbery-under-arms.

The accusation is that on August 17 at Linden, Joseph, being armed with a knife, robbed Yvonne Alphanso of $1,500 cash. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. Alphanso was not present in court.

The prosecution asked that the unrepresented Joseph be remanded to prison and that the matter be transferred to the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court and the Magistrate granted the request.

Joseph was ordered to return to the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court on August 24.
