Hotel Tower has set February 2011 for its official re-launch and it is still currently undergoing rehabilitation works as part of plans by new management to make it more marketable while catering for the total entertainment needs of customers.
“Hotel Tower’s vision is to be the number one business oriented hotel in Guyana. Also recognizing the gap in the entertainment offerings available, our focus is also to be the premier entertainment location in Georgetown,” said Shaun Aleong, Sales and Marketing Manager. Although the official re-launch is next year, customers will not have to wait until then to experience the changes being implemented at the hotel.
Currently, a hair and beauty salon, clothing boutique and the Edge Lounge are just three of the improved facilities available there. A state-of-the-art gym is the next feature to be added in October.
For the dining public, the Blue Lagoon Bistro and the Hibachi Grill will be available.
The Hibachi Grill, which will be the first of its kind in Guyana, will give customers the ability to cook and dine using Teppanyaki tables (cooking surfaces) thus providing what the hotel envisions as the ultimate cooking and socialising experience.
The entertainment facilities will be put in place while the hotel’s rooms are being renovated.
Professional interior decorators will be hired to design the rooms and make them on par with international standards and guests’ expectations. “Our main objective is to offer a premium product, with excellent service along with an array of entertainment and recreational facilities,” said Aleong. He added that the changes are all part of the new direction of Hotel Tower.
Hotel Tower Ltd went into receivership to the Bank of Nova Scotia on April 12, 1999 and while under receivership paid $3.5 million monthly to the bank. The hotel had run into difficulties in the 1990s when it invested too heavily with the aim of becoming a five-star hotel. In mid-2003, the Bank of Nova Scotia ceased its receivership hold on Hotel Tower Limited in an equity transaction which saw businessmen RL Singh, Amarnauth Muneshwer and Ashoka Singh of Canada as the new majority shareholders of the company. Last year, it was bought by Canal Hospitality Inc.
