Linden-Lethem road improved

– bus service restarts
The condition of the Linden-Lethem road has improved substantially with the major bus service, Intraserv set to resume service today.

Trucks with supplies have once again been entering Lethem, residents reported yesterday. However, some prices for supplies in the border community remain high. One resident, who traversed the trail on Friday, said that the condition of the road has improved. “The road wasn’t bad,” he said.

The major bad spot: a 50-metre section at Corkwood is almost fixed. According to the resident, the contractor built up the middle of the road so that vehicles could pass. The slush at both sides of the road was being cleared so dry material could be placed to provide a firm foundation. The recent dry weather has helped in the fixing of the road.

Meantime, the Hunt Oil stretch has been repaired though residents cautioned that the situation could change when heavy rains begin again. Over the past weeks, sections of the trail collapsed following heavy rains and trucks were banned from traversing leading to limited supplies in Region Nine. Other traffic was severely curtailed and travellers had to walk long sections, shuttling from vehicle to vehicle, to get to their destinations.

Intraserv, the major bus company halted its services but announced in newspaper advertisements over the weekend that services will resume today.
