Man denies charge of ganja possession at Bartica

A 28-year-old man accused of having six grammes of cannabis in his possession was on Monday granted $40,000 bail when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry-Sewnarine at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on September 8 at Bartica, Calvin Arthur of 37 Third Avenue, Bartica had in his possession six grammes of cannabis.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson who represented the defendant made an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that he has no antecedents, has a fixed place of abode, poses no risk of flight and has been cooperating with the police in their investigations.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford had no objections to bail.

Thompson’s request was later granted and his client was admitted to bail in the sum of $40,000.

Arthur’s matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for October 27.
