Dionne Stephens’ killer still at large

The Stratsphey man who stabbed Dionne Stephens to death days after she ended their relationship and moved from his home is yet to be apprehended by police.

Commander of Police ‘C’ Division Gavin Primo told Stabroek News yesterday that they are actively seeking Leon Robinson.

Meanwhile, Primo declined to respond to allegations made by Stephens’ relatives that police did not take several reports of abuse from the woman seriously and did not take action although they were present when Robinson allegedly threatened to murder the woman.

“I know that reports were made,” Primo told this newspaper adding that, “I don’t want to comment because I am not in the office… I don’t want to comment without being fully aware of the facts. Some time around 10 pm on Monday, Stephens was attacked by her former reputed husband while she was bathing in her mother’s Vigilance yard. The man, relatives had alleged, tormented Stephens continuously during their seven-year relationship before he finally ended her life in a most brutal fashion: by slashing and stabbing her repeatedly about the body.

The woman was the mother of four children; the eldest is 14 and the youngest 9, who are currently in care of her 57-year-old mother Desiree Stephens.
