Bandits shoot Mon Repos man during home invasion

A 45-year-old technician was shot twice in the thighs during a scuffle with armed bandits who invaded his Lot 139 Fourth Street, Martyrsville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara home late Sunday night. The gunmen later escaped with cash and jewellery.

Steve Ramalho is said to be a patient of the Georgetown Hospital in a stable condition.

According to police reports, around 10:45 pm, three gunmen managed to push down a locked door at the Mon Repos residence and confronted Ramalho and his wife Karmin Persaud a 46-year-old vendor. At some point during the hold up, there was a scuffle between Ramalho and the gunmen. Ramalho sustained gunshot wounds to his thighs and a bullet, police said, grazed one of his ears.

The bandits later escaped with $65,000, seven gold rings and two cellular phones.

Up to press time last evening `C’ Division police were still looking for the perpetrators.
