Man in South Sophia trench found with bullet to head

The decomposing remains of an unidentified man were yesterday morning discovered floating in a canal in South Sophia behind Meadow Brook Gardens with a bullet wound to the back of the head.

The discovery was made by someone passing the area around 6 am and the police were informed.

A resident told this newspaper that early Saturday morning, gunshots were heard but he did not go to investigate.

Police said in a press release yesterday that the male who is of African ancestry has a tattoo on the upper left forearm in the form of a cannabis leaf with the writing ‘Jah Bless”.

At the time of the find, the body was without a shirt and clad in red trunks and blue long pants. The man sported plaited hair and is about 5 feet 4 inches tall.

A gold chain and a cellular phone were among the items, police found in his pockets.

The body is at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.
